Liverpool Bay Marine Life Trust is a small charity dedicated to the study and conservation of Liverpool Bay's marine life and to help educate the public about the wealth of species found in our region. Most of our work involves monitoring population trends of our local Habour porpoises and Bottlenose dolphins - though other species, such as Minke whales and Grey seals and more besides are also seen - both with land-based surveys throughout the region and at sea, on board specially-chartered vessels. Secondarily, we organise shark-tagging trips in the bay, to monitor our local species.

We work closely with Sea Watch Foundation - a similarly-focused, though national cetacean conservation organisation - bringing both sets of local volunteers together to maximise data quality and quantity of data collection; which is shared between the two groups. So if you come along for our watches, you'll be able to contribute to both causes at once.

We are looking for more volunteers to join us for cetacean (dolphin, porpoise and whale) surveys in Merseyside, at first during land-based watches at any of several locations that we use (the most common being New Brighton, Wirral) and later, after observed, notable contribution, we hope to bring each volunteers out on boat-based surveys. Our main goal for this new wave of Marine Conservation Volunteers is to have them take on the role of organising their own watches and submitting the survey data for analysis, once they have been trained to do so.

No experience or qualifications are required, as full training is provided; only a capability and willingness to work outdoors is needed, as well as an enthusiasm for marine biology, wildlife conservation or a related field. We are also interested in recruiting volunteers to help us in non-survey tasks, including helping us at events, fundraising and data analysis.
