Enventure Research is currently working with Guildford Borough Council to establish a borough-wide participation rate for its kerbside services including the refuse, recycling and food waste collections.

To do this, we are looking to employ Participation Monitors who will work alongside the collection crews to mark down which bins have been set out by residents on certain collection rounds across Guildford. This information is recorded using pen and paper and then entered into an Excel spreadsheet each day.

Duties and responsibilities

Full training will be given at the start of the project. Duties will include:

  • Working individually, walking slightly ahead of the collection crews or riding in the collection vehicle
  • Recording which households are presenting their refuse, recycling and food waste bins for collection
  • Recording if additional side waste or excess recycling has been presented
  • Recording if the recycling bin is contaminated (at a glance)
  • Recording all information on paper copies of street listings
  • Work within health and safety rules and guidance
  • Data inputting – you will be required to input all the data collected into an Excel spreadsheet from home and email on a daily basis
  • You will return hard copies of the daily monitoring sheets to the Enventure office on a weekly basis

Personal Specification

Essential

  • Ability and willingness to work independently
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions
  • Competence to record data methodically using Excel and email
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to work without direct supervision and alone
  • Ability to work early mornings and flexibility with working hours
  • Flexible with working locations across Guildford and ability to travel around Guildford area
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Physically fit and able to walk ahead of the collection crew for the entire monitoring period (although at times you may be able to travel with the collection crew)
  • Access to a computer and the internet for data entry

Desirable

  • Knowledge of recycling issues
  • Related experience
  • Clean driving license and access to vehicle (may not be required if you live locally)

Further details

  • Duration: 6 weeks – start date w/c 19th June with training session w/c 12th June
  • Hours: Approximately 35 hours per week (6 hours monitoring + 1 hour data entry from home per day)
  • Days and hours: Monday to Friday – 7am until collection round is completed
  • Salary: £8.45 per hour plus a potential bonus upon successfully completing the work and attending all shifts
