Sectors: conservation & wildlife

Closing date: Friday, 16 June 2017

We are looking for a volunteer officer to work here at Lavender Pond Nature Reserve, an urban nature reserve based in Rotherhithe, South London. Created in 1981, the reserve is not only important for wildlife, but also a vital community and educational resource, something which we are currently trying to build and develop.

Why we need you

We work with local volunteers and corporate volunteering teams, to maintain and develop the reserve for wildlife and for use by the local community. Part of the role of the volunteer officer will be to work with the project officer, to plan tasks, and to supervise and engage with the volunteers undertaking them.

We are currently working to increase the use of the site, by means of community events and school activities. The volunteer officer would play a key part in this, assisting with open days and any school visits.

Benefits to you

As well as gaining valuable practical experience, we are able to offer training in first aid, project leadership and risk assessments. Reasonable local travel expenses can also be provided.

This is a fantastic opportunity to gain knowledge and experience relevant to work in the environmental sector, which can be very beneficial when entering the job market.

What you need

Enthusiasm and good communication/people skills are very important, as is a passion for the outdoors and the environment. This position is subject to an enhanced DBS check.

How much time?

Ideally you will be able to commit 2-3 days a week (with some possible weekend days) for a period of 6 months, but this can be flexible.
