Households and Communities Project Officer

About Us

The National Energy Foundation is an independent charity based in Milton Keynes, which has been at the forefront of improving the use of energy in buildings since 1988. We aim to give people, organisations and government the knowledge, support and inspiration they need to understand, manage and reduce the use of energy in buildings.

The Households and Communities Team

The Households and Communities Team manages a number of on-going projects which build on our capacity to provide strategies and solutions that help to reduce the use of energy in existing domestic buildings. We undertake projects with and for Community Groups. We also work with colleagues in other teams across the Foundation to bring our knowledge of households and communities to projects of a more technical nature.

We work to deliver projects in the areas of Energy Efficiency, Behaviour Change and Renewable Energy. We also undertake projects focussed on alleviating fuel poverty. Much of the work we do is specifically commissioned by the communities or collaborative partnerships themselves. Other projects are funded by central Government, Local Authorities, Housing Associations and other organisations.

Job Overview

Over the winter months the role will assist in the delivery of our Affordable Warmth networks, which are separately funded by their respective Local Authorities and County Councils with the aim of reducing the number of people in fuel poverty and preventing them from getting into fuel poverty initially. This may involve limited attendance at events outside of normal working hours.

Support will also be provided to other ongoing projects within the team such as our renewable energy portal, our multi award winning Open House network our internal solid wall insulation project and our European projects, including

Prior knowledge of, or an interest in, renewable energy, energy efficiency or fuel poverty is essential, however additional on the job training will be provided.

A Households and Communities Project Officer is expected to be an enthusiastic self-motivated person with excellent written and verbal communication skills, an outgoing personality and the ability to engage and inspire the general public and to represent the Foundation and its clients at public meetings and events.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to grow and develop personally and professionally within the Foundation, with potential for increasing responsibility and future career progression.
