Our vision for the Muirkirk Uplands SSSI/ SPA is of a designated site in healthy condition, with thriving populations of the upland species and habitats for which the area is nationally and internationally important. Active management will be getting carried out across the designated site as well as adjacent farmland, in order to positively benefit the area’s important wildlife. Farmers, Land managers and Conservationists will be working together in partnership, and the area will become an exemplar for the integration of upland land management and nature conservation.
We have a fantastic opportunity for a versatile project officer to help deliver this vision by liaising and forming relationships with landowners and farmers; undertaking habitat management works, including overseeing the work of contractors; and undertaking and organising species and habitats surveys, including through the recruitment and management of volunteers.
The project officer will build upon existing research and conservation projects in the area that are focussed on upland raptors, breeding waders and peatland habitats to produce a Conservation Action Plan for the area, and will deliver advice to local land managers and oversee peatland habitat restoration contracts. If you share our vision and have a proven track record of successfully meeting project targets, managing a varied workload, being well organised, have experience of habitat management, and enjoy forming productive relationships with land managers and farmers then this could be the perfect position for you.
