This is a new post and offers a fantastic opportunity for someone to climb onto that first rung of the ladder or for someone with some experience who wishes to learn more and be involved with a new set of conservation challenges.
This post involves a wide, varied and exciting set of tasks working at two distinctly different nature reserves – Airds Moss with the continuation of the extensive blanket bog restoration projects already underway and Baron’s Haugh, which is in a quasi-urban location on the edge of Motherwell where we are trying to engage with diverse audience and bring them closer to nature – each site presenting a unique set of challenges.
Your time will be split equally between the sites and in your role as Assistant Warden you will be supporting the Warden in charge of these sites. This will involve undertaking physical work on the ground, undertaking surveys for all kinds of flora and fauna, helping to manage volunteers, liaising with the public and generally making sure that our management plans for each reserve meet our very high standards. You will be employed by RSPB Scotland and your base will be in Glasgow at the South and West Scotland Regional Office. You will however have plenty of time spent “on reserve” – enough to satisfy even the most ardent “outdoors” person! One half of this post which relates to Airds Moss, is funded by CABB (Conservation Across Borders for Biodiversity), please see the Additional Information pack for further information on this project.
