We have an opportunity for a senior acoustic consultant to join our successful team in the UK, providing acoustic consultancy and design services throughout the UK and abroad on major infrastructure schemes and internationally acclaimed buildings, as part of our integrated multi-disciplinary consultancy. In this role you will have primary responsibility to win, manage and deliver projects primarily in the field environmental acoustics with the potential to grow our business in this region.

Our acoustics consultants are at the forefront of enabling projects like High Speed 2 to achieve public and parliamentary approval and in helping our clients understand acoustic concepts through auralisation demonstrations in our SoundLab.

Role:

  • Consulting design and project management of acoustics, noise and vibration projects
  • Overseeing and contributing to the planning and execution of acoustics, noise and vibration projects
  • Resolving complex acoustical engineering issues assuring compliance with statutory bodies
  • Managing and delivering parts of major infrastructure projects through assessment and planning phases
  • Summarising data interpretations and providing conclusions via technical reports and presentations
  • Supervising and co-ordinating the work of others and co-ordinating work with engineers of other disciplines
  • Managing project teams to ensure production of deliverables to agreed timelines
  • Financial forecasting and control of projects to ensure that they remain within budget
  • Building client relationships, responding to enquiries, communicating with clients to establish their needs and drafting fee proposals
  • Working with Arup colleagues in the business sector to build the business and technical field
  • Providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior members of the teams

Essential skills and knowledge:

  • Typically around seven to ten years practice in acoustic consultancy or similar
  • Experience in the measurement of noise and vibration and analysis of results
  • Thorough knowledge of current legislation and policy with respect to noise and vibration
  • Proven track record in the technical and commercial delivery of acoustic consultancy projects
  • Experience managing and delivering parts of major infrastructure projects through assessment and planning phases
  • Managing technical project teams
  • Experience in business development and the successful preparation of competitive bids

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors technical degree (physics, acoustics, engineering, environmental science)
  • Preferably a Masters, PhD or Post Graduate Qualification in Acoustics
  • Member of the IOA
  • Ideally a chartered (or working towards chartered status) engineer

Desirable skills and knowledge:

  • Experience of acoustic modelling software for environmental noise modelling in 3D
  • Experience in groundborne noise and vibration
  • Training and development of junior staff
  • Consultancy experience and skills in building acoustics
