Are you passionate about nature conservation and helping visitors to have an amazing experience with nature? Do you want to help protect one of South West Scotland’s fantastic wetland nature reserves? This is an exciting time at Mersehead as we add another 112ha to the reserve and we are currently looking for an energetic and dynamic Assistant Warden to join the small team at RSPB Mersehead. You will be involved in the direction and management of this new land right from the start and work in our ongoing delivery for wildlife and people.
Set adjacent to the intertidal sandflats of the Solway Firth, a mosaic of habitats form RSPB Mersehead. The reserve regularly hosts 10,000 Svalbard Barnacle Geese in winter, along with thousands of other wintering waders and wildfowl. Throughout spring the air is filled with displaying Lapwings and the distinctive chorus of Natterjack Toads floats through the evening air.
The successful candidate will be an effective leader with a passion for developing others, able to work independently and effectively to meet agreed deadlines and targets. With your endless passion for our work, you will assist with the management of habitats, wildlife, property and machinery and your passion will inspire others to love this beautiful place.
You will possess good ecological knowledge with an understanding gained through practical experience of the habitat management practices required across coastal and wetland habitats. To allow the reserve to progress, you will develop close working relationships with colleagues and teams from across the organisation fostering a culture of supportive working towards organisational goals.
If you feel you have the skills, knowledge and experience to take on this exciting role, then we look forward to receiving your application.
