Post: Outdoor Education Instructor

Dates: Seasonal, April 10th to Oct 20th 2017 (Paid break Aug 14th Aug 28th)

Hours: Full time: M-F 8am to 5pm with one evening activity duty per week which runs 7-8pm. Occasionally there may be need for a second evening activity duty. There are no overnight or weekend responsibilities with this role. The exception to this being 4 overnight responsibilities during the 3 week long summer camp (July 24th to Aug 11th).

Salary: £9.00 per hour

Responsible for: Summer holiday programme interns/volunteers

Main purpose of the job

We are looking an Outdoor Education Instructor to join our Education team at Wildwood Escot in Devon. We are looking for someone with a passion for teaching in the outdoors and an ability to connect with children, teachers, parents and other staff in a professional and friendly manner. You will plan and a range of excellent activities to go with our key topics and deliver them to school groups staying on our residential programme. You will be expected to work closely with other staff to ensure a seamless and professional experience for students and teachers.

The post holder will be expected to support the work of the wider office on events and to work such additional hours as are reasonably necessary to fulfil the requirements of the post, including some evening work.

We ask that applicants for this role have a degree in outdoor education, conservation or teaching with at least 1 year’s environmental education teaching experience. We will also consider candidates without a degree, but who have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in outdoor education and appropriate fully completed training certifications (such as forest school). There will be a training period in April where the successful candidate will work closely with other education staff to learn about our programmes and curriculum.
